5 Things to Consider Before Choosing Your Primary Bedroom Layout!

On , In Insights

There’s no denying that when it comes to building the custom home of your dreams or even purchasing one already built there are many things you need to consider, and your primary bedroom layout is one of them! So, here are some things that you should consider about your primary bedroom layout that you may not have thought of!

1. Do you have a lot of furniture, and are they larger pieces?

If you have a lot of furniture or even a king-size bed, you will want to consider a primary bedroom layout with ample wall space. In this case, our recommendation would be to choose a layout with fewer doorways leading into the primary bedroom, like plan 1-2-669, which has only one door that enters the primary bedroom. This will give you ample wall space to place all of your various pieces.

2. How will you use the space?

One of the things we like to discuss with our clients is how you and/or your partner will use the space. Are you both on opposite schedules or similar ones? If you are on opposite schedules, you may want to consider a primary bedroom layout in which the walk-in closet leads into the ensuite or vice versa. One doorway leading into both the walk-in closet and ensuite will allow one of you to use the walk-in closet and ensuite while the other sleeps peacefully.

3. Do you want a sitting area?

Some homeowners enjoy having a sitting area in their primary bedroom; if you are one of those people, it is important to consider the square footage of the room to ensure it will accommodate either a love seat, a couple of armchairs or the piece of furniture you want to fit in the space.

4. Do you want access to a deck or patio?

What’s great about designing a custom home is that you can really tailor your living space to just how you like. Adding a private patio or deck off of your primary bedroom will create an extra doorway, leaving you with less wall space for furniture in the bedroom, but overall is such a nice touch, if you ask us!

5. Do you want the primary bedroom to be close to all of the other bedrooms or separate?

If you have young kids, you may want to have all of the bedrooms in one area of the house, but on the other hand, you may have older kids and want the bedrooms to be on separate wings of the house. Whichever your preference is, we have multiple plans that can accommodate your preferences!
